Nails

The Legend of the Six Fingered Man

I am definitely not Inago Montoya.

Background

I read an article about the discovery of an ancient burial for a person who was obviously some kind of soldier/warrior and his grave was covered in bent nails. There are some folks who believe that this was to ward off evil spirits or to keep the dead’s spirit from rising from the grave.

Lyrics

(Chorus)

Not even the nails will keep me away

Haunting the memories of the living day to day

The last door is broken when you utter my name

Love and fear become won in the same

driving angry steel through their lovers chests

sent them all to lie in their final rest

the blood and the breath

the sweet taste of death

Now their swords held in their final grip

(Chorus)

In a short life lived

By the blade and despised

Fought through the battle

Til the last one demised

Til the boat capsized

Til there was no one left

Til I saw the crowning glory

of my last sunrise

(Chorus)

Buried under leaves

for thousands of eves

the long sleep is upset

and now I've come to collect

(Chorus)
