We Make Music.

M.C. and Darby have been making music together much longer than they have not. Life-long friends and collaborators, this project aims to build a catalog of work that ranges from songs realized by earlier bands, to songs never quite finished, to brand new material never before heard by anyone.

FAQs

  • Leopold and Company is a collaborative effort among Darby Stowan, M. C. Prufrock, and whatever other ragtag band of musicians we assimilate into our funky surreal collective. We are all individuals...except for some of us.

The idea for this effort flowed from a conversation about composing songs about weird news stories. Thus, "No One Was Injured" (composed via text message over the course of 2 hours on a Saturday), "State Hwy 120 at Midnight", and "Hamburger Strangler" were born.

  • Leopold is everyone. Leopold is no one. No. Neither of us has a government issued document with the name ‘Leopold’ on it. We are part of the company.

  • Disco Industrial Punk Funk with a sidecar of avante gargle jazz

  • Not yet, but we're working on that. Contact us if you think you might be interested in joining our live band. We're looking for horns, keys, guitars, aux percussion, and bass. Bonus if you can sing. We are currently gauging interest and not actively rehearsing. Rehearsals will likely take place in Kalamazoo, MI and will occur outside of normal business hours.

  • Yes.

  • No.

  • Also no.

  • Because people have a hard time reading.

Due to our varied musical interests and experience with playing many different styles, our music has a tendency to genre-bend and go in unexpected directions. We like to call it all Funk, but we exist less in the tradition of James Brown or the Ohio Players and more in the tradition of the experimental funkiness of bands like Funkadelic. If you dig what we do, then you dig. Dig?

Our HQ

We are HQ’d in West Michigan. While we truly believe our music is global, international, off the third wall, and part of the revolution, the fact remains that our teleporter broke down several months ago and our airline budget ain’t what it used to be. If you’re interested in collaborating or joining us for live performances, residency within driving distance of W Michigan is likely in your best interest.
